Pre-birthday Celebration Day 1
It's the first day of August and 2 days before my birthday. I had my pre-birthday celebration lunch date with Kurt at Cibo Lucky Chinatown Mall.
Kurt's one my closest friend since High School. We were volleyball teammates back then, and it's been more than a decade! Wow! Thunders!!!!!
This lunch date was planned since Monday and he wants to treat me for lunch. I told him that I should be the one treating him not the other way around. He just told me that its his birthday gift for me.
CIBO
When Kurt told me that he will treat me for lunch at LCTM, he wants me to choose where. I jokingly told him at Spiral $$$$$ hahaha. I just told him that we just have to decide once we're there. We met at the Cotton on ground floor of the mall, then the search began. The list of choices are Sumosam, Kuse, Uncle Cheffy Kogi and Cibo. We eventually ended up at Cibo. Since we're already used to eating asian cuisine, might as well dine at something we haven't tried yet. By the way, Kurt is also a chef.
Cibo is an Italian and an open-space restaurant located at 3rd floor of Lucky Chinatown Mall. They serve antipasti, salads, pastas and pizzas.
The restaurant has an open kitchen where you can take a glimpse on how they cook your food.
They also have their own comfort room.
Menu
The menu gave me a headache. I really have to read every description of each dish as the name itself is in Italian.....Of course, I'm not an Italian. Here's a good example:
See what I mean? Nose bleed diba? But it's their style, their uniqueness. 6/10
SERVICE
The food was surprisingly served faster than expected. Now that's fast service! The Staff is friendly and attentive. 10/10
FOOD
Kurt and I didn't notice that all the dishes that we ordered contained cheeses of different kinds, which is a big mistake because they're all too heavy that we didn't get the chance to give room for the desserts.
ANTIPASTI
Be careful of touching the bowl with the cheese, it's very very hot!
This appetizer is called Tegamino di Formaggio Fuso, which means melted cheese in pan. They have three choices of cheeses, mozzarella, gruyere, or fontina served with flatbread.
We ordered Groviera. It's gruyere with sundried tomatoes and capers. I don't usually eat capers and sundried tomatoes, but when I tasted the cheese mixture with the flatbread, they complimented each other. It's good
PASTA
The pasta was served in just a few minutes after the antipasti.
The pasta that we ordered is Penne Alla Florentina or penne served with sausage, cream, gorgonzola and fennel. Another cheese dish!
My tongue didn't find any hint of gorgonzola in it. Maybe they were too careful enough to put a minimum amount of it as gorgonzola is a blue cheese, which most people doesn't like because of its distinct taste. Slightly bland.
PIZZA
We're still eating the antipasti and haven't touched the pasta when the pizza came. That fast!
PRAGA....that's the name of the pizza. It contains mozzarella, smoked cooked ham and mushroom. The mushroom that they used is shiitake.
The pizza bread is very chewy, parang napasobra ata sa kunat, or maybe it was just us.
Nothing special.
We want to order desserts. But after consuming so much dairies......nah hehehe. They serve creme brulee, tiramisu, panna cotta, gelato and some cakes. I give them 7/10
Over all Total
7/10
Thank you Kurt for the free lunch. I had so much fun. Take care on your travel to China and Bangkok.
